Hello Pettit cousins I have discovered in my genealogy and DNA research that my sister and I are related via DNA to the Pettit line, and through our research, it appears our Battet is really Pettit. We are wondering if this was common in the NJ area with this surname? We are just beginning to research this, so please forgive us if we do not know much at this point. Jonas Battet (Pettit) 1730 NJ -1774 NJ who married Rachel
Daughter Prudence Pettit/Battet-Guyse 1757 NJ - 1827 GA who married Nicholas Guyse Sr. 1754 NJ - 1827 GA.
We have found documents with both names to all of these individuals, including recently released NARA Family History books for my Guyse line.
