Denise Hi - I’m new here but am a descendant of Agnes Jane (Pettit) Gibson (b1859 d1894) whose father was a Joshua Pettit married to Treacy Pool(e) both from Spartanburg, SC. The genealogy records I have were from an Arkansas relative (now deceased) named JO Gibson who apparently traveled to SC numerous times to trace family lines.
Brandon Hi Denise,Do I understand you correctly that you inherited the records of J. O. Gibson? I corresponded with him in the 1990s and have a few newsletters he published. One of them includes a water quality report of the old "Healing Springs" also known as Poole Springs or Pacolet Springs. J. O. worked with another cousin, Viola Jones, to clean up the Pettit cemetery near Cowpens. J.O. passed away several years ago and nobody knew what happened to his records.
DyanaG Brandon So Brandon, do you know how to locate the Pettit cemetery? There was a message from a guy on here and he was asking how to find the cemetery, so I sent a message to Viola on Ancestry asking her the location, but she never responded. Also, my message to Doug on here about that subject has disappeared!
Brandon DyanaG, Sorry for the disappearing message. I migrated this server to a much better machine and lost a handful of messages in the process. Yes, I do know how to locate the Pettit cemetery in Cowpens. I have actually been there twice -once with Viola Jones who you mentioned. I provided the info to Doug but don't think I heard back on whether his cleanup trip took place The property owner would need to be contacted before visiting but he is friendly and understanding.
