Mary Frances Pettit is my 2nd great grandmother (1859 - 1919). She married William Berry “Spike” Davis. They had a son named William Hosea Davis which is my great grandfather. His son Richard Harrell Davis is my grandfather. I know nothing about my biological father side of the family other than what I have uncover. While working in the Pettit side of the family I keep getting a hit for a Cherokee and a Choctaw enrollment. Since back then everyone named their son Joshua, Thomas, or Henry it start getting a little confusing. I have started over on the Pettit Side several times.

Maybe you can help me out.

josiecrumby I would suggest you get a DNA test and that will show if you have any Cherokee or Choctaw blood, although it will not show a tribe. I've been told that both sides of my family had Cherokee blood, but I have zero, which means no ancestors of mine did either. My mom was the Pettit, and descended from Joshua, whom they call old Joshua on this website.
